Chaz Bundick (aka Toro y Moi) is one of the more versatile musicians out there, from his classic chillwave debut to his hip hop influenced 2015 mixtape Samantha. Now he’s adopted another pseudonym as PLUM, and quietly released a self-titled track for Leaving Records’ Modern New Age series.
Now before you run away from the term “new age,” give this track a shot. Call it “ambient” if that makes it any better. While the distorted lo-fi production may be slightly jarring at first, you’ll soon enough find yourself entranced by the warm pulsing layers of synths. Check out PLUM, as well as lovely ambient sounds from ~j~ (drummer for Mac DeMarco) below, and read about Leaving Records’ Modern New Age series here. Cheers to Mr. Bundick and the Leaving Records team for giving New Age music a good name 🙏.
